Hi, Minimus:
Your question could be construed as "Who is in charge of -- controls -- the GB?"
Just a thought . . . Then again, we here on JWD do not brook conspiracy theories!

we know he was faithful to frederick franz (or frederick franz was faithful to him).. we know he was discreet because so little is known about him today.
for example, we know that he was in the writing department (even though he never professed to being a jw), that wore expensive jewelry and that he was frederick franz spokesman (or did i get that backwards?)....
also, much has been said about salihs strange hebrew-to-english bible translations (supposedly used by frederick franz when writing certain wt articles) and several illuminati and/or freemason conspiracy theories have been analyzed, yet this guy has managed to slip under the radar almost completely unnoticed by all jws and will probably be completely forgotten in just a few years.. so, who really is the faithful and discreet natheer salih?
I posted here four years ago, so I read.
I met the man by the name given in the OP. He gave our Memorial talk about 16 years ago. He is around 5' 7" and nothing like described above. He and his wife are Bethelites.
Strange, other men with that name . . .
my recent escape from a home beloved was of sheer and unqualified necessity.
my people and i have been overtaken by a scorpion race of alien malefactors whose intent towards us is not one of beneficent intervention, but that of utter conquest.. if it were only the mere subjugation of a weaker species, we might have acquiesced, although begrudgingly.
however, the terrifying reality enjoined upon us proved to be the conquerors' brusque insistence that their insatiable hungers be satisfied with our quailing flesh.
You got it , KIDDO!
these are of early '70s vintage, i recall.
my job was to sort through thousands of these and be sure they were not "off register.".

Yes, scratchme1010, we do remember the dinosaur -- in the green NWT!
Thanks!
in the august broadcast, david splane is shown in a morning worship video.
i just wanted to focus on the end of the video, were he has this to say:.
the governing body loves to get together and discuss the bible.

Thanks, OrphanCrow, for your recollections.
You may recall that there was an elder arrangement in Russell's time. I believe one "bought" the privilege. Or was voted in. Ancient history! So, the abandonment of that flawed arrangement (probably by Rutherford's time) was likely tinged with the smacking of Christendom, as you referred to. Yes, elder was unfavorably connoted.
When it was "tried" out in Bethel and environs, I heard all kinds of horror stories of fighting among the brothers -- but wasn't it Jehovah's arrangement?!?!?!?

A question of timing, smiddy!
I worked on the AID book, in the factory and, later, indirectly, when working on the 1966 -- 1970 Index, which heavily referenced Aid to Bible Understanding. This was well before NHK's announcement in the spring of '72.
If I find my copy of AtBU, I'll check the actual copyright date. You're right, though -- it was close!
THANKS!

Incredible, Lostandfound!
Well, of course, anointed brothers going overtime is totally believable. Your first-hand information is very much appreciated and testimony to the fact "you had to be there"! A now elderly born-in told me that Watchtower studies used to go on for hours. That had to be quite early on, I figure.
Remembering Brother Knorr, in particular, I have to say that, unless you were at Gilead graduation of 1972, you would never have heard this about the then-developing elder arrangement: 'We're going to try it out here [at Bethel] to see if it works.' -- A paraphrase of what he said, as close as I can recollect.
As the new arrangement unfolded, there were lots of bumps in the road.
THANK YOU!

Thanks, Pete Zahut, for your reply.
Her name -- in the back of my brain, but not yet on the tip of my tongue -- doesn't seem to correspond with your suggestion. She was middle-aged when I was there in the early 1970s. Therefore, if still alive, she would be in her late 80s, I'm guessing. Of course, when you're in your twenties, everyone older is ancient!
You may be on to something, however . . .
OH! Sister Mann??? [just popped into my head after submitting]

EXCELLENT, Nancy!
Considering the human attributes you've given Lilly the Cow, do you have further thoughts on who the narrator in "My Recent Escape" might be? I purposely left out pertinent details.
Thanks!
